North face sabretooth half zip review
We determined that they are slightly tougher than the Columbia Rebel Roamer , though not quite as tough as the Marmot Minimalist Pant , which both took home 9 out of 10s. Our testing team found these to be one of the easiest to pull on without having to remove nearly any lower to mid volume footwear like trail running shoes or light hiking boots.
The half-length zipper and wide pant legs made this maneuver among the easiest of any model we tested. This pant is versatile. It's light and packable enough for hiking, backpacking, and climbing, but also durable enough for occasional downhill skiing or snowboarding and equally at home while snowshoeing.

The North Face Venture Half Zip Review A versatile pant that excels at everything from day hikes to downhill skiing and doesn't give up much in the way of weight and packability.

Venture 2 Half Zip vs. While not as storm-worthy or as breathable as some of the other models in this review, these pants are half the price of many models, and are one of the most versatile models you can find at the price point.
The Venture offers an elastic waist band that is wider than most; however, it did not feel bulky under a pack and did an excellent job of keeping our pants up. An inner drawstring allowed a small amount of adjustment. The Venture Pants are one of the looser fitting pants in our review. While some folks might not like their baggier cut, it did enable comfort and mobility.
The Venture's half-length zippers and wider fit meant donning these pants over small- to medium-volume footwear was a pretty easy task. Our testers felt we could easily pull these pants over most hiking boots without having to take them off, but not all winter or mountaineering boots.
Learn More. Durable, easy to put on without removing boots, one of the most versatile pants in our review. Inexpensive, lightweight, excellent packed size, reasonably weather-resistant, baggy cut makes it easy to wear over other layers, low profile waistband doesn't pinch under a backpack. Breathability, packability, average comfort.
Thin fabric prone to tearing, limited breathability. Not especially breathable, clammy with moderate aerobic activity, no front hand pockets, below average articulation. Velcro flaps on waist occasionally come undone, average weight. No pockets, breathability, ventilation, not easy to put on without removing footwear.
Then I have to be mindful as snow does tend to build up on the bottoms and I have to occasionally knock the bases with my ice axe, in order to clear it off. When stainless steel first started to be used to produce crampons a lot was made of the benefits, with many claiming that it was actually lighter than carbon steel. This is in fact, not true, with carbon steel and stainless steel actually weighing the same.
What is true however, is that stainless steel does not rust, is more resistant to blunting I can vouch for this here , and is tougher and stronger. Which is perhaps where the lightweight claim came from as in theory this allows you to make the same crampon as a carbon steel one, but with less steel? Just for the record, the Sabretooth weighs g per pair including the antiballing plates.
To conclude, the Sabretooth crampons from Black Diamond are an awesome classic 12 point crampon, that I really am struggling to find any fault with at all. They do everything well, whether it be classic snow climbs, moderate ice routes or ski mountaineering.
